Description


Spicy tuna rolls are a popular and delicious option for sushi lovers who enjoy a little heat in their meal. This dish combines the fresh taste of tuna with a spicy kick, all wrapped up in a neat roll. Perfect for a sushi night at home, a special dinner, or a light lunch, these rolls are sure to impress and satisfy.

 


Ingredients:


  • 2 cups sushi rice

  • 3 cups water

  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 6 sheets of nori (seaweed)

  • 8 oz sushi-grade tuna, finely diced

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

  • 1-2 teaspoons sriracha (adjust to taste)

  • 1 avocado, sliced

  • 1 cucumber, cut into thin strips

  • Sesame seeds for garnish

  • Soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi for serving


 

Instructions


  • Prepare the Sushi Rice: Rinse the sushi rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rice and water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for another 10 minutes. Transfer the rice to a large bowl.


  • Season the Rice: In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Gently fold this mixture into the rice using a wooden spoon or spatula. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.


  • Prepare the Spicy Tuna Filling: In a bowl, mix the diced tuna, mayonnaise, and sriracha until well combined. Adjust the spiciness to your liking.


  • Assemble the Sushi Rolls: Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface and lay a sheet of nori on top. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge.


  • Add Fillings: Place a strip of cucumber and avocado along the edge of the rice, about 1 inch from the bottom edge of the nori. Spoon the spicy tuna mixture alongside the cucumber and avocado.


  • Roll the Sushi: Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the nori and rice over the fillings, tucking the fillings in as you go. Continue rolling until you reach the top edge. Press gently to seal.


  • Cut the Rolls: Using a sharp, wet knife, slice the sushi roll into 1-inch pieces. Clean the knife with a wet cloth between cuts to ensure clean slices.


  • Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the sushi rolls with sesame seeds. Arrange them on a platter and serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi on the side.
